Welcome to my new writing spot And "NoveL Idea" where I intend to display all my fictional writing, hopefully
to learn, grow, experiment, experience, network with other authors, and become the creative writer that I was
born to be.
I've often read and heard that writing what you know makes a great writer. So I've decided to quit spinning
my wheel in the hamster cage and do just that.I'll never get that novel started or get closer to my dream by just thinking
about it.
It's time to find my voice and my style! Getting back to writing what you know. I digress...remember that
guy James Frey?....the one who wrote the book "A Million Little Pieces," the one who Oprah launched into infamy
starting the day she had him on the show after choosing him as her book of the month pick. He was an addict that
wrote about his recovery in rehabilation, and he fell in love with another woman in rehab who later went
on to hang herself...did you get all that?
That show was the beginning of a controversy that lasted quite awhile, causing his book to be pulled from bookstore
shelves everywhere for awhile. He and his publisher proclaimed the book as a biography, but because the book was
launhed into popularity so quickly, people that knew of him started to dig into his past a bit. It was uncovered that
many of his recollections of events were made to be embellished upon and some completely fabricated. Oprah had him
on the show again, basically made him look like the biggest ass in the world up against her, and denounced the pick,
and stated she was sorry for choosing the book.My point is, I read the book when it was announced book of the month,
and I found it to be an EXCEPTIONAL writing piece!
I even felt sorry for him, but maybe he should have just stated it to be fictional piece with some truth mixed in. I
would definitely read his writing again because he knows how to pull a reader in and keep them involved in the character's
life......so to me it didn't matter that he didn't tell the whole truth because his writing superceded the fact that he lied.
Now with that all said, I'm here to focus on my writing and take what I know and embellish and fabricate the hell out
of it! That way if I ever happen to be on Oprah's book of the month show I won't look like an ass :)
